One more for the summer calendar

Friday, May 11th, 2007

Look, ma, I’m branching out! Into, of all things, posts about chamber music!

Seriously, if I attempt to actually discuss classical music I will quickly lose all credibility, but that doesn’t mean that you should miss out on hearing about it. The Eastern Shore Chamber Festival is coming soon, June 8-17, and it’s a rare opportunity to hear internationally acclaimed musicians in Eastern Maryland — including the Young People’s Concert, an even rarer opportunity to see acclaimed musicians for FREE!

And even if you’re more visually than aurally inclined (hey, wait, why are you reading the music blog?), you won’t want to miss out on the beautiful locations they’ve selected for the shows, ranging from historic art deco theaters to gorgeous churches to outdoor oceanfront vistas. It will be more than worth it to do some exploring (what my sister-in-law calls a “car adventure̶ ;) to enjoy a little oasis of culture in a summer that will hopefully otherwise be full of partying and lying half-comatose on the beach.

Calling all local musicians…

Friday, May 4th, 2007

I was wondering what people think of the Shenandoah Network as a music networking platform (that’s www.shenandoahconnection.com) . It looks like a great resource for local performers looking for gigs, or for peeps looking to book a musician for their event. Experiences, anyone?
