So, who was at the Play it Safe karaoke party last night?

I have to hand it to Play it Safe, they really do have a wide range of events for teens. And I have always had a secret weakness for karaoke, although at an explicitly alcohol-free event like this one there’s very little chance of me actually taking the mic. ;) So I’m a little sad that the cornucopia of free singing contests, dances and concerts for young people is drawing to a close this weekend. This summer’s contests featured some impressive teen vocalists, too. Congratulations to all the winners: Jessica and Andrew from Week 1, Kalie, Dustin and Logan from Week 2, Lauren, Ben, Melissa and Elizabeth from Week 3, and Amber and Kyle from Week 4. To watch the prize-winning performances, check out the Play it Safe Idol multimedia site.

Granted, watching them on the little video windows is nowhere near as much fun as seeing the show live on the beach, especially since the website won’t give you free pizza from Tudo’s, Pepsi drinks or a chance at a cool door prize. But hey, if you missed out on the karaoke, you still have one more chance to hear free live music courtesy of Play it Safe: the wrap party this weekend will feature a great reggae concert on Friday at 200 South Division street from 7:30 to 9. I’ve always thought that Caribbean music goes great with the beach, although honestly I’m more of a Soca person myself. I hope everyone has a good, clean time!

It looks like soon I’m going to get the chance to post an exclusive interview with Lennex, the biggest rock band in Ocean City. The guys finally responded to my email this weekend to say that they’re right in between tours, and will try to get in touch as soon as possible. Check this site in the next couple of weeks if you would like to hear what it’s like to ride around the country on a rock ‘n’ roll tour and then get to come home to sunny Ocean City!
